Annual Day Function - SECA - Jayanagar - Bangalore- Nov 21st 2010

This was the last activity of the year 2010.Its from 2 years we have been seeing these kids and sponsoring education for some of them. We were all happy to be with the kids for 2 years watching them closely, going for outings with them, taking them for games mornings, attending some of their bday celebrations.

We assembled near the function hall on time and soon the function started at 6.30PM. Kids came up with amazing dance performances and nice skits in english which made the evening lively and entertaining.Highlight of the day was the performance by the kids for a patriotic song exhibiting different cultures in India. Also the song by the SECA volunteers made the audience enjoy the evening. It was very nice to see the happiness in the parents when their kid was performing on the stage.

Followed by these SECA team gave their annual report and thanked all the teams which helped them throughout the year. Also they gave a certificate "a small thank you for spending time with the kids". To our surprise, we were the first team on the stage that night to receive the certificate. It was a memorable moment for all our members on the stage to hear a big thank you from the kids ."Dear Few Dreams Team - We thank you for spending your time with us, helping us learn and letting us have the fun" was the message on it.Few other groups which helped them in conducting "Theatre and art classes" also received these certificates.

Coming to the last part of the day, Pragati group, a set of girls from the Swagath community had prepared some Hand made gifts which were kept there for a sale. Most of us bought a few gifts to encourage the kids. The event came to an end by distributing snacks to all the people. All the SECA and few dreams volunteers together had a snap and thats all for the day.,

Sunil, Ravi, Santosh,Bhageerath,Siva, Chenduri, Devaki,Praveen varma, Subhash, Sanshank, Sravan were some of the members who attended this annual day.

Independence Day Celebrations @ Vaabasandra school Aug 15th 2010

Our plan was to celebrate Independence day along with the kids at Vaabasandra school. All of us were very excited about being a part of the celebrations with children on an Independence day. Most of the people responded well to our invitation and made their time for the kids. The school staff were also very happy to see so many of us actively participating. By the time we reached the school, it was 8 AM and all the kids were waiting for us. It was a very nice gathering of 20+ volunteers, 4-5 teachers, 20+ local people, 70-80 kids.

The program started with the flag hoisting by the Head master of the school and the village president followed by Vandemataram and later speeches of the head master and all the local heads of the village. The kids performed dances and songs for some patriotic songs. Even though most of us could not understand kannada, it was nice to be a part of the celebrations. All the small girls in sarees really performed well and everyone liked Krishna between all these girls.

Some of our volunteers (sashank and girish) gave their message to the children in kannada. Sashank was garlanded by the head master of the school on the stage along with the village president. It was the sign of respect that we got from the school. All the people mentioned about the volunteers and our help to the school in the last couple of years, which made all of us happy.

Prizes were distributed for the winners in all the sports events conducted in the school. Village heads distributed 2 note books per head to all the students in the school. Sweets are distributed to all the people and the kids went back to the class rooms.

As soon as they assembled in the class rooms, the drawing competition started.
We distributed all the chocolates and biscuits which we got to all the children. We also had an afternoon meal in the school. We left the kids for their lunch and our volunteer panel selected the winners for drawing. All of them were again arranged in the ground for the final prize distribution of the day after the lunch. We distributed the prizes for all the winners and the drawings made us to give some consolation prizes too for the young kids for their creativity.

We took group photos with all the kids and the teachers in the school. Finally we said them bye and also dropped some of the kids at their home on our way back.

Members from both the teams Few Dreams and Drishtikon actively participated in the celebrations. Ravi,Sunil, Sashank, Vinay, Samrat, Swaroop, Teja, Sravanth, Shubho, Rama Krishna, Santosh, Shiva, Satish, Vamsi, Girish, Naresh, Sagar, Kavya, Radha Krishna were the volunteers for the day.

Our next event would be the drawing competition at Hulimangala School in September last week.

Book Distribution Drive -Phase 2 & Drawing Competition @ Tumkur - July 24th 2010

All the things were set and we got ready to start our 2nd book distribution drive of the year in Tumkur which is 90 KM from Bangalore. We started at 7AM on 3 bikes and a car with all the books and stationery and reached tumkur by 9AM. It was a splendid drive for all of us and we were enough lucky that it didn’t rain on that day.

They were two govt primary schools which were located in Mysore Army Reserve police academy in Tumkur. The strength of both the schools together is around 130 kids.We interacted with the kids as most of them understood Telugu and conducted the drawing competition. They have come up with some amazing drawing in no time and now its turn to be the panel and decide the first and second prizes. It was a tough call for us to decide the winners as most of them deserve a prize

In the mean time some of us started distributing books and this time we gave them all the stationery they need including the graph books and geometry sets for the higher classes. Finally the list of winners for drawing was decided and we gave them prizes. After that we played some time with the kids and some of us had lunch with them in the afternoon meal program.

The second school which we covered in this phase is an Urdu medium school. It was a nice interaction with them in the classroom, knowing their names and all of them even remembered our names as well. Pradeep, a native of tumkur helped us by guiding us about the routes, restaurants and places to visit in and around Tumkur.

We took a group photo with all the kids and finally said bye to them .It was a heartfelt moment for all the volunteers , with the Kids standing and waving there hands in good bye. All the volunteers were satisfied and all of us went to our school days for some time.
On our way back, we visited DD hills, Namara chilume and some other ancient temples which are 1000 years old. It was a nice road leading us through all the small villages on the way filled with greenery.

Special thanks to Sashank and his group Drishitkon for making all these events a great success. Ravi, sunil, swaroop, samrat, sravan, bhanu, pradeep, sashank. Teja, shubho were the volunteers for the day.

Our next event was Independence Day Celebrations at Vaabasandra school

Book Distribution Drive- -phase 1 – Hulimangala and Vaabasandra schools-July 17th 2010

This is our first book distribution drive. Drishtikon is our partner group for all the book distribution activities of the year. The plan is to distribute books and other necessary stationery for the children in the government schools of Vaabasandra, Hulimangala.

First we went to Vaabasandra school. This school is 3KM away from Electronic city and 1KM from Treamis International school. The strength of this school is around 95. It has classes from 1st-7th. We reached the school around 8 AM in the morning and by the time we went there all the kids are waiting for us. We just had an introduction with all the kids in the school and started the distribution of books and chocolates. Finished the distribution from 1st class to 4th class in no time and then we moved on to the higher classes. Class by class we completed the distribution soon and spent some time with the kids.

This time it’s a good attendance from our volunteer’s side. Around 15 of us were present on the day. All of us had a nice time in the school remembering our school days.
Kids came up with different activities like singing songs, Mimicry etc which were really good and all of us enjoyed. Finally said bye to the kids and moved on to our next school around 9.45 AM.

Hulimangala School- This school is about 3Km from Electronic city. The strength of this school is around 60. It has classes from 1st-7th. We included another small school – Nanjapura govt primary school where the strength is around 15. We did the same things done in the previous school.

They had a nice class room filled with the art work of the kids. The mimicry done by all the kids together making different sounds was really amazing. Finally we took a group photo with the entire school and concluded the event.

With these 2 schools this year we have given books to around 170 kids. Our next plan to cover 2 more schools in Tumkur covering another 130 kids and making the count 300.
Thanks to all the volunteers for making the event a success -Ravi, sunil, swaroop, vinay, Sashank, Shubo, santosh, vamsi, bhageerath, shiva, soudamini. Hope we would see more volunteers for our next events.

Few Dreams @ 2 years

Few Dreams started exactly 2 years back (May 2008).
Now Few Dreams is two years young. Congrats to all the team.
Extremely thankful to each and everyone for being a part of this.
Thanks for all your ideas and thoughts shared.
It’s just like we started our journey in small steps and the real time has come. Let’s transform this into a big one.
On activities front, we are waiting for the schools to restart their academic year so that we can donate books in some of the schools. We are looking forward to do more activities in this year than what we did in the last 2 years.
In terms of volunteers, we have hard working dedicated volunteers, but still we need more active people who can volunteer the activities.
On other hand, we are planning to increase the contributions. As a part of this we have plans to register our group and also start a bank account in the name of Few Dreams for the collection of funds.
Meeting regularly, we have been planning to do this from long time, but still it remained as a challenge for us. Requesting all of you to just give your feedback/inputs/ideas/thoughts etc and participate in most of the activities.
Thanks to all the members from Swagath group and Sashank from Drishtikon for helping us in all the ways they could.
We are stream lining all the plans and activities for this year and will let you know the details shortly.
Once again thank you,
Yours,
Project Few Dreams
